Aug. 11 Vitamin of the Month-VITAMIN A

Vitamin A is one of the fat-soluble vitamins.  It has 3 different forms including: Retinol, Retinal and Retinoic Acid.  Collectively called the Retinoids, they play significant roles in vision and immune function.  Some research also suggests vitamin A may act as an anti-oxidant.

Vitamin D is another one of the fat soluble vitamins.  Fat soluble vitamins are absorbed in out intestines along with dietary fat.  After absorption they are moved to the liver or other organs where they are either used or stored for later.

VITAMIN E is another one of the 4 fat soluble vitamins.  90% of Vitamin E is stored in our adipose tissue and the remaining 10% is found in our cell membranes.  There are 8 different forms of vitamin E, however the most important and biologically active form of vitamin E are the Tocopherol compounds.
